Welcome to Kathleen Flowers Blog

March 5th, 2007

Kathleen, Howard and BreeganWe’ve created this blog, so that we may provide timely updates on Kathleen’s cancer, surgery, and recovery. To update some of you, Kathleen, fondly known as “Katalina” at her school, has had an ongoing battle with bladder cancer. This rare cancer was removed last year in a partial bladder removal. Unfortunately, it has come back and she will need another partial bladder removal again. She also has a large mass on her ovary. It is unknown at this time what it is, however it is also scheduled to be removed.

We will be posting to this blog regularly, so please check back daily for updates.

Thank you to everyone for their love and support. Please continue to send positive thoughts and prayers to Kathleen !

Brian, thank you for setting this up and Howard too! Thank you for keeping us updated. Our family is lighting candles and surrounding Katalina with prayers for her healing journey. We love Katalina.
Katalina mentioned that she has a CD player and welcomes any audio or music CD’s. I am planning on visiting Katalina in SF on Saturday, dependent upon surgery and all. If you have any CD’s you’d like to send, please put in Rafael’s cubby in Room 27 and I would be happy to bring them to her, or drop them off before she goes.
    Love, Pamela and Family

May you receive the tender and fierce love that surrounds you.. I am holding you in my heart, really close. Howard, is that you keeping us all updated? Thank you so much if it is you! I know you must be so busy and I can’t tell you how often I check Katalina’s blog to check in and send healing thoughts. Thank you. San Francisco — you are housing a poet, teacher, priestess, friend extraordinaire! I hope my native city is treating you well, Katalina. I just wanted to check in if Katalina’s niece was going to read Katalina’s poem for the Celebration of the Muse. Katalina, is that something you would like posted on your blog to tell people about the festival? I think many people would go to hear your poem, but I don’t know if people know about the festival and how you were chosen to read!! Quien te quiere mucho, Pamela

    Dear Kathleen,
Every day I send you love and pray that you are finding ways to keep the mind quiet.
During my time in the hospital I listened to certain spiritual artists over and over again,
especially a hawaiian minister I love. His name is Dennis Kamakahe. It’s such a different world in there….many compassionate folks, even the janitors. Reading my journal entries are still amazing.
I know you have so many who love you and so much wisdom to guide you down this path. May you find rest in the eternal light.
    Love,
    Joan

Dearest Katalina, We sing for you every day…”¡La lucecita brilla de mi corazon…” para ti!! We are sending white light to surround you and all your caregivers and doctors. Dominic and I hope the “shark” medicine is protecting you. Linus and Dominic say, “I hope you get better soon!”
Many thanks to all who are caring for Kathleen: Howard, brothers, sisters, friends.
Lars and I will be in S.F. for an Orff music workshop on Saturday and hope we can drop by to see you. Let us know if there is anything at all that you need. How is your DVD collection? My suegra has a video library as big as the staff room. We can surely borrow from her if you can watch videos.
May the universe release you from any pain and may you feel the thousands of arms of those who love you lifting and carrying you through all difficulty and uncertainty. You are our shining light and we shine back at ya sister. More love than I can express, Therese, Lars, Dominic and Linus

    Aloha Kathleen,
I’ll miss your voice tonight. I’m reading a poem I wrote in Joe’s class, the one about remembering scattering my mother’s ashes at Point Lobos and my grand daughter saying “Hello” to her when I pointed out where she was. Kids are so ahead of us when it comes to knowing about the spirit world. It will be wonderful to hear your neice ead your poem. Much love, Joan

    Hi Kathleen and Howard!
Ernesto and I were in SF on Saturday and tried to see you at UCSF, but we were at the wrong hospital! By the time we figured it out, it was after visiting hours ad the gaurd said ‘Sorry”.
However, please know that we are holding you in the light of healing.
On my altar, I discovered I had a flowered Mexican cloth that I had just put on after we talked last week. So when I light my candles I say one for you. Abundant
light and Lots of Love, te queiros mucho.
    Robin
Ernesto sends prayers for healing too!

    Thank you Jenny.
Our family would love to take the 8:00am time slot to send our healing wishes. Please tell Katalina how majestic her poem resonated when her niece read her poem at Cabrillo. Not one person moved and it was as if the flamenco dancer danced over all our heads, her skirts the curtains. And the second stanza dropped into the clarinet tone and left all speechless. Her niece was so poised and held the same intonations I had heard hours before from Kathleen. I realized a new layer to the title Duet:. Katalina and her niece. I felt both were there. And your mother was right. I did cry. For two days. Not out of anything, but for the power of poetry. The power of Katalina’s images and words. Such vibrations. Your surgeons will be surprised. How you hum Katalina. Your words still vibrate. I believe poetry can heal. Much love to you, Pamela and family

    Hi K,

The light is shining particularly bright on Cape Cod these days. I wanted to attach a picture of Alanna just to prove it, but can’t figure out how (PhD? hah!). I never had a clearer knowledge of the caring, loving and healing power of the universe than when I was with you. Whether is was strangers offering us their hearth and home while hitchiking, or lemonade when we were craving it most, the blessing power of the light was both immediate and long lasting, and as real as day. It has never left.

The girls seem to be tapping the light directly from the source, and every time I see them, I’m reminded of what is important in this world, and that includes you. We’ll keep you in our thoughts late tomorrow morning, which should be sunrise out west. Let the light shine blindingly and hold you tight, as will we all.

    Blessings and much much love,
    K

    Dear Kathleen,
I have nothing much to say, but oddly enough…must say something.
You are always on my mind.
    Pretty cool.
Your brother and Meg did an awesome thing.
The blog had a great purpose.
It was the most reasonable way to stay in contact, get information and not bug you with fourty-two phone calls a day.
    Pretty neat.

    We are filled with soul…
    Que no?

    Always,

  42. Lyn
    March 17th, 2007 at 21:30 | #42

    Dearest Kathleen,

I haven’t written yet but everyday read and feel the energy of this blessing of a blog. I resonate with sooo very much of what others share and when I feel you in my heart/mind’s eye I ALWAYS feel the glow as the one pouring out of your room. I sit very humbled at the steps that pioneers sometimes must make for the benefit of all others…..I do see this as such a big part of your path…… How to call in great light with more love, laughter and a deeply caring community.

I went to my favorite spot on the lake here on Wed and not long after dedicating the time for your healing a sweet duck came over to me. It lifted it’s leg to a 90 degree angle and then slowly put out it’s wing to that same direction. She stood there for quite some time like a little ballerina; simply meditating in that funny looking position. It felt poignant for some reason.

Then after hearing your ecstatic, happy news I went back to the same spot to give thanks. Again not long after sitting, a flock of lovely long neck geese began making a real rukus. Eight of them took flight just over the water, honking and singing, and in V formation put down their landing gear, skiied toward me and before finally landing for the float, five of them stood on the water and spread their wing to full extension…..it was quite something. I can only say that the ducks, geese and lake creatures up in Chico are singing and dancing for you in a big way!

When your poems appeared, I wept. Then when I read them, I wept again.

It’s all beyond words as they say,
but you play with the palette masterfully.
    With much LOVE and gratitude.
Wishing you even greater waves of blessings,
    if that’s possible.
    Lyn

Good morning Kathleen (Bon Journo?) Uncle Pat and Maureen enjoyed your blog. Pat really loved the wiens and wessels, He was in Germany and says to watch out for the Germans after they’ve been drinking!! They seem to spit a lot when they are singing. The German Md’s report sounds very optimistic.. Enjoy Italy, as the doctor says, sounds like a good prescription!

    Love, Uncle Pat and Maureen
